Merci encore Romain ! Je le recommande vivement ! »— Céline Kochanowski

Frequently asked questions about CPAM-approved taxis

Eligibility — am I entitled to reimbursed transport?

Transport by CPAM-approved taxi is covered on medical prescription, issued before the trip, if your health justifies it. A simple prescription is enough for a hospitalisation (admission or discharge), a qualifying long-term illness (ALD exonérante), a work accident or an occupational illness, or a review summons from Health Insurance. A consultation without an ALD is not covered. The legal basis is set out in articles L. 160-8 and R. 322-10 of the Social Security Code. Call the health insurance office of your département to confirm your situation.

The CPAM covers transport by CPAM-approved taxi for a hospitalisation (admission and discharge), a qualifying long-term illness (ALD exonérante), a work accident or an occupational illness, or a review summons from Health Insurance. Prior agreement is required for a trip of more than 150 km one way or for serial transport (at least 4 trips of more than 50 km over 2 months, for the same treatment). Since 1 October 2026, a non-qualifying ALD is no longer enough. A medical transport prescription is required in all cases. Call the health insurance office of your département to confirm your situation.

Yes, the medical prescription is essential for reimbursement: in principle it must be issued before the transport. In practice, many doctors prefer to issue the transport form on the day of the appointment, directly at the practice or hospital. If you don't have the form yet, don't give up on your transport: as long as your situation qualifies for coverage (qualifying long-term illness, hospitalisation, work accident), call us, we'll handle the journey and you collect the form during the consultation. The prescription must specify the transport mode suited to your condition and include the prescribing doctor's identification.

The pre-authorisation request is a procedure required in specific regulatory cases: long-distance transport (over 150 km one way), recurring transport (at least 4 trips over 50 km within 2 months for the same treatment), or shared transport incompatible with your condition. Your doctor issues it and sends it to your local health insurance fund. Key point: no answer from the fund within 15 days counts as approval. A pre-authorisation has the same value as a prescription for reimbursement purposes.

The service — what is included

A CPAM-approved taxi is a taxi whose driver has signed an agreement with French health insurance. This agreement authorises them to transport patients to their care locations with direct billing to the CPAM (third-party payment). The patient pays nothing upfront. MR Taxi has been CPAM-approved since 2012 and provides medical transport across the entire PACA region.

The driver handles transport to the care location, helps the patient move between the pickup point (home, hospital room) and the vehicle, and escorts them to the relevant department entrance. They assist getting in and out of the vehicle. The vehicle carries a first-aid kit and meets current hygiene standards. MR Taxi drivers are trained in first aid.

Reimbursement — how much and how

No, you advance no costs thanks to third-party payment. MR Taxi bills the CPAM directly. Transport is covered at 100% for a qualifying long-term illness (ALD exonérante) and for a work accident or occupational illness. In the other covered cases, such as admission to and discharge from hospital without an ALD, Health Insurance covers 55%, the remainder possibly covered by your complementary insurance (mutuelle) depending on your policy. A consultation without an ALD is not covered. MR Taxi offers full third-party payment with both CPAM and mutuelles. To confirm your situation, call the health insurance office of your département; for any question, I remain available.

The fare is set by the national agreement between licensed taxis and health insurance. Reimbursement is based on the least expensive route consistent with service quality, accounting for route configuration, traffic conditions, number of patients transported and your health status. We may only invoice the fees defined by the agreement, no extra charge is added for a reimbursed trip.

Booking — how it works

For booking: pickup address, appointment location and time, one-way or return, number of companions, wheelchair needs. For third-party payment: medical transport prescription, up-to-date Carte Vitale, complementary insurance card, and patient status slip in case of hospitalisation (ask at reception before leaving). If your doctor prefers to issue the prescription on the day of the appointment, that's not a problem: call us anyway.

Advance booking is recommended but not required. Even at the last minute, call 06 98 46 63 34, we find a solution in the vast majority of cases, 24/7. For recurring treatments (dialysis, chemotherapy), a regular slot with the same driver is arranged.

Yes, both outbound and return journeys are covered on the same transport voucher. For short appointments, the driver can wait on site. For longer treatments (chemotherapy, dialysis), the return is scheduled at the time agreed with the patient.

Yes, you can book for an elderly parent, a child or a dependent person. Bring their medical prescription, Carte Vitale and insurance card. One or more companions can travel with the patient, specify this at booking. Folding wheelchairs are accommodated at no extra charge. For a non-folding wheelchair or stretcher, contact us for referral to a suitable vehicle.

Let us know as soon as possible: a simple phone call is enough. For recurring transports (dialysis, chemotherapy, rehabilitation), tell us about any change in protocol or timing as soon as you know, so you keep your usual slot.

Romain — MR Taxi, approved drivers since 2012

Since I started in 2012, I've been handling CPAM and VSL-approved taxi trips (Social Security certified) for patients on dialysis, chemotherapy, specialist consultations or hospital stays across the PACA region, from Timone to Paoli-Calmettes, from CHU Toulon Sainte-Musse to Aix hospital.

What my clients value: a regular driver for recurring treatments (the same face every visit), trained in first aid, clean vehicle and first-aid kit on board. Third-party payment is smooth, just bring your Carte Vitale and insurance card.
