Pertuis is one of those towns you drive through without stopping when looking for the Luberon, and rediscover with pleasure when you take the time to stroll there. A quiet little town at the entrance to the Pays d'Aigues, it plays its role as the gateway to the southern Luberon with a discretion that suits it. The Baroque fountains, the Saint-Nicolas tower and its Friday morning market are good reasons to stop before heading to the hilltop villages.

The Friday market

The Friday morning market is one of the liveliest in the Bouches-du-Rhône. Fruit and vegetables from local growers, cheeses from Luberon producers, lavender honey, herbal teas and dried flowers: it is the Provençal market as you imagine it before looking for it at tourist prices elsewhere. Arrive early.

Luberon villages within reach

Pertuis is the ideal base for exploring the southern Luberon without the crowds: Lourmarin (Camus's village, with its Renaissance château and art galleries), Cucuron (the large basin shaded by thousand-year-old elms, the most beautiful bistro in the Luberon according to some), Ansouis (a medieval château still inhabited, with a view over the plain). These villages are spectacular and more accessible than those on the north side of the Luberon.

How to organise a day from Aix or Marseille

Pertuis is close to Aix-en-Provence and accessible from Marseille. MR Taxi can organise a day exploring the Pays d'Aigues from these two cities: Pertuis market in the morning, Luberon villages in the afternoon, return at your chosen time.

Organise your day in the Pays d'Aigues with MR Taxi, pick-up from Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, your hotel or your rental in the Luberon, available 24/7.
