I am no musicologist, but I can tell you that hearing a piano recital on a July night in the Château de Florans park, with the Provençal breeze rustling the century-old plane trees and the scent of lavender in the air, touches something deep. The La Roque-d'Anthéron International Piano Festival, founded in 1981, is today the world's greatest piano festival with over 100,000 spectators every summer.
A month of concerts in an enchanting setting
From around 25 July to 23 August, La Roque-d'Anthéron rings out each evening with the music of Bach, Schubert, Chopin, Ravel. The open-air stage in the Château de Florans park holds 2,500 spectators. Satellite concerts take place in neighbouring villages: Aix-en-Provence, Salon-de-Provence, Pertuis. The programme is announced in spring and some recitals sell out in hours.
Getting to La Roque-d'Anthéron
Traffic and parking information is communicated by the organisers and the town hall before the event: check it before you set off. MR Taxi drops you as close as possible and picks you up at the exit, from all towns in the region, at the guaranteed maximum price announced at booking.
