The Feast of Saint Peter is one of the Blue Coast's most authentic maritime celebrations. Every last Sunday of June, the fishermen of Carry-le-Rouet carry their patron saint's statue in procession from the church to the port, place it on a decorated boat, and accompany the blessing of the sea in a flotilla of garland-strewn vessels.
Programme for the Day
The celebration starts in the morning with a seafood market on the quays. At 10:30am, open-air mass on the port. At 11:30am, procession and blessing of the boats and nets. In the afternoon, music, traditional games and a shared harbour meal. In the evening, a light show over the old port.
Carry-le-Rouet, the Fishermen's Side
Saint Peter's Day is the opportunity to discover a different Carry from the summer swimming weekends, the Carry of fishermen who still leave before dawn each morning, whose catch supplies the port restaurants. The returning boats in procession, with the illuminated Saint Peter statue, is a moving and photogenic moment.
