In Aubagne, the santon is not a Christmas trinket. It is a trade, a clay, a history that goes back to the workshops of the 18th century. Every winter, the town that calls itself the capital of clay sets up its santon and ceramics market on Cours Foch, and this event has become one of the most important in Provence.
The 2026 dates
The Christmas 2026 edition is announced from 14 November to 27 December, on Cours Maréchal Foch. These dates remain to be confirmed with Aubagne town hall or the tourist office before you travel.
What you will find
Traditional hand-painted santons, cribs with Provençal settings, contemporary ceramic pieces and figurines inspired by the world of Marcel Pagnol, a child of Aubagne. The craftspeople set up their wooden chalets along the avenue, which gives the market the atmosphere of an open-air workshop.
Practical information
The market is usually open every day from 10am to 7pm, with an earlier closing on 24 December and closed on 25 December. Entry is free.
Aubagne's SNCF station is close to Cours Foch. For a late-night return, a transfer from a concert in Marseille or regular trips during the weeks of the market, MR Taxi provides transport from all towns in the region.
It is advisable to book at least 24 hours ahead, but even at the last minute I adapt and find a solution. Booking on 06 98 46 63 34.
