The Festival International d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence is one of Europe's most important musical events. Since 1948, every July, the city transforms into an open-air opera stage, the courtyards of the hôtels particuliers, the Théâtre de l'Archevêché and the Grand Théâtre de Provence host productions that rank among the finest on any stage worldwide.
2026 Programme
The full 2026 programme has not yet been announced, but the broad outlines are known: a new Mozart production (opera remains the festival's cornerstone), two contemporary commissions specially created for Aix, and a chamber music concert series in the courtyards of the old town. The City During the Festival
Throughout July, Aix lives at the festival's pace. Free concerts take place around the fountains, artist masterclasses are open to the public, and the bars and restaurants of Cours Mirabeau stay lively until late. It's one of the finest summer atmospheres in Provence.
Getting There by Taxi from Marseille or the Airport
Traffic and parking information is communicated by the organisers and the town hall before the event: check it before you set off. MR Taxi drops you as close as possible and picks you up at the exit, from all towns in the region, at the guaranteed maximum price announced at booking. If the place is hard to reach, I will give you an easily accessible meeting point.
