Salon — Aix & Sainte-Victoire: private taxi tour
About 4h45 · Full day
A fine day of history and painting. We leave Salon and reach Aix-en-Provence in three quarters of an hour. I drop you on the Cours Mirabeau, the avenue of plane trees lined with fountains and 17th and 18th-century mansions. The Café des Deux Garçons, the statue of King René, the hot fountain flowing at thirty-four degrees in winter and summer: Aix is best discovered on foot. I leave you the time you need for the old town, the Mazarin district and Saint-Sauveur Cathedral. In the afternoon, we head to Le Tholonet and Sainte-Victoire. It is the village Cézanne crossed on horseback or on foot to go and paint, and nothing has changed: the Florentine château, the centuries-old plane trees, the vines. At the first viewpoint, the mountain appears in front of us, massive, white in the sun, exactly as in the paintings. If the weather allows, we go up to the Croix de Provence by the Route de la Cause, or we stay and look from the valley. Back to Salon by the Meyrargues road, in the evening light.
