Martigues — Marseille & Calanques: private taxi tour
About 5h40 · Full day
We leave Martigues to the south and in thirty minutes we reach L'Estaque, the working-class village of Marseille where Cézanne and Braque came to paint in the 19th century. A small harbour, panisse sold fresh from the oven, a direct view over the bay. Then the Old Port: the lively cafés, the fish auction on the Quai des Belges, the southern atmosphere. We climb to Notre-Dame de la Garde. The Bonne Mère has watched over the city since 1864, and from its terrace you take in everything: the bay, the Frioul islands, the Château d'If and, on a clear day, as far as the Calanques. In the afternoon, we head to Cassis. The little harbour ringed by ochre houses, the red cliff of Cap Canaille, the fishing boats. I leave you a few minutes, then we climb to the viewpoint of the Sormiou calanque. Turquoise water, fishermen's cabins, dazzling limestone. Back to Martigues along the Marseille corniche and the motorway. Book on +33 6 98 46 63 34.
