Marseille — Highlights: private taxi tour
About 2h25 · 2h
Twenty-six centuries of history: you cannot see everything in one morning, but I take you where Marseille truly breathes. The Old Port first, early if possible: the fish auction on the Quai des Belges, fishermen selling their red mullet and scorpionfish straight from the crates, the smell of coffee mixing with the sea. Then we go up to Notre-Dame de la Garde. The Bonne Mère watches over the city from 150 metres up, and from its terrace you take in everything: the bay, the Frioul islands, the Château d'If in the distance and, on a clear day, as far as the Calanques. I leave you time to take it in. Then Le Panier, on foot this time: I drop you off and pick you up. It is the oldest district of the city, with Pierre Puget's Vieille Charité hidden at the end of a lane, its pink arcades and its museum of African art. We finish at the MuCEM, that concrete lacework set on the sea in 2013: the footbridge linking Fort Saint-Jean to the museum offers one of the finest views of the city, free and open to all.
