Marseille — Aix & Sainte-Victoire: private taxi tour
About 5h25 · Full day
This is the tour for Cézanne lovers, and I enjoy doing it every time. We leave Marseille and reach Aix-en-Provence in about half an hour. I drop you on the Cours Mirabeau: the centuries-old plane trees, the moss-covered fountains, the cafés where the painter sat every morning. We go down to the Mazarin district, with its 17th-century mansions and its Fontaine des Quatre Dauphins, then back up to Saint-Sauveur Cathedral. In the afternoon, we head to the Atelier Cézanne. It is a small house on the heights of the city, preserved exactly as the painter left it: the smock hanging on the wall, the skulls on the shelf, the plaster apples. You feel his presence, it is quite moving. Then we go on to Le Tholonet, the little village he crossed on his way to paint. Mont Sainte-Victoire then rises in front of us, gigantic, white in the sun, exactly as in the paintings. I like to stop at the viewpoint: the silence, the garrigue, the limestone that seems to vibrate. Back to Marseille by the road through the vineyards. Book on +33 6 98 46 63 34.
