La Ciotat

La Ciotat — Cradle of Cinema: private taxi tour

About 2h10 · 2h

This is the town where it all began, and I let you touch that history. We start at the Eden Théâtre, the oldest cinema in the world still in operation, where the Lumière brothers screened The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station in 1895. The hall has been restored to its original state, and screenings have resumed there since 2013. It is a moving place. Then we head to the Figuerolles calanque, one of the strangest on the coast. Its pointed rocks carved by wind and sea, its small pebble beach and its very particular shape have fascinated generations of painters and photographers. Finally the Mugel beach, at the foot of a listed Mediterranean botanical garden. Cacti, bamboo and exotic plants grow freely on the heights, and the calm sea below offers a perfect shelter for swimming. A constant view of the Bec de l'Aigle, the rock that overlooks La Ciotat and gives it its face. Back to the centre along the corniche. Call +33 6 98 46 63 34.
