Gémenos — Pagnol Circuit & Aubagne: private taxi tour

I often do this tour with passengers who grew up with Pagnol's films, and every time it is the same emotion. We start in Aubagne, his hometown. The house where he was born in 1895 is still there, discreet, in a small street that has not changed. I show you the santon workshops in the centre: they are the direct descendants of the 18th-century craftsmen, and some still sculpt clay figurines the size of a thumb in front of you. Then we take the small winding road towards La Treille. It is the real setting of My Father's Glory: the garrigue smelling of crushed thyme, the cicadas, the old dry-stone walls. The cemetery where the Pagnol family rests overlooks the whole valley.
