Aix — Luberon & Gordes: private taxi tour
About 5h30 · Full day
This is one of the tours I am asked for most, and I understand why. We leave Aix and head for Pertuis, capital of the South Luberon with its old town and its 15th-century collegiate church. We continue to Lourmarin, listed among the most beautiful villages of France. Camus spent his last summers there in a house you can glimpse from the street, and he is buried in the village cemetery, in a very simple grave shaded by cypresses. After a coffee on a terrace, we go up to Gordes. The road climbs between vines and olive groves, then suddenly the village appears, clinging to its cliff like an eagle's nest. I take you to the viewpoint on the departmental road from where the famous photo is taken: dry-stone houses piled up, pink tile roofs, cypresses standing guard. Finally the Sénanque Abbey, alone at the bottom of its valley, surrounded by lavender fields that perfume the air in July. Cistercian monks still live there, and the sung mass at noon is worth the trip. Back to Aix through the Calavon valley. Call +33 6 98 46 63 34.
