Aix — Historic Centre: private taxi tour
About 2h20 · 2h
Aix is better visited on foot than by car, and I give you the time you need at every stop. We start with the Cours Mirabeau, an avenue of plane trees lined with fountains and 17th and 18th-century mansions. The Café des Deux Garçons, the statue of King René, the bookshops: it has been the beating heart of Aix for three centuries. We then climb to Saint-Sauveur Cathedral, a surprising mix of Roman baptistery, Romanesque cloister and Gothic nave, whose Burning Bush triptych by Nicolas Froment remains one of the masterpieces of the 15th century. Then we dive into the Mazarin district, less known but gentler: Place des Quatre Dauphins, Rue Cardinale, ochre façades, carriage gateways. We finish at the Atelier Cézanne, up on the heights. The little house where he painted his last canvases has remained intact: the smock hanging on the wall, the skulls on the shelf, the plaster apples. You feel the painter's presence, as if he had just stepped out for five minutes. A quiet return to the centre. Call +33 6 98 46 63 34.
