Posé sur le Fort Saint-Jean à l’entrée du Vieux-Port, le MuCEM est l’un de ces rares musées qui valent le déplacement pour leur architecture avant même d’en pousser la porte. À partir du 15 mai 2026, le musée ouvre une nouvelle saison avec une programmation qui explore la Méditerranée sous toutes ses coutures.
L’exposition principale : « Méditerranées — Mémoires et Horizons »
Une plongée dans les échanges culturels, commerciaux et humains qui ont façonné le bassin méditerranéen depuis l’Antiquité. Objets archéologiques, photographies contemporaines, témoignages — l’exposition tisse des liens entre des civilisations que la mer a tout à la fois séparées et rapprochées. Une mise en perspective qui parle forcément autrement quand on la visite depuis Marseille, ville-carrefour par excellence.
À ne pas manquer en dehors des salles
Le Fort Saint-Jean lui-même — ses jardins en terrasse, ses vues sur la Bonne Mère et la mer — mérite une heure de déambulation. Et la passerelle qui relie le fort au bâtiment principal offre l’un des points de vue les plus photographiés de Marseille. Prévoyez du temps pour flâner.

Perched on Fort Saint-Jean at the entrance to the Old Port, the MuCEM is one of those rare museums worth the journey for its architecture alone, before you even step inside. But this spring, it is what is inside — and outside — that deserves all the attention. From 15 May 2026, the museum opens a new season with a programme exploring the Mediterranean from every angle.
The main exhibition: "Mediterraneans — Memories and Horizons"
A deep dive into the cultural, commercial and human exchanges that have shaped the Mediterranean basin since antiquity. Archaeological objects, contemporary photographs, personal testimonies — the exhibition weaves connections between civilisations that the sea has both separated and brought together. A perspective that resonates differently when experienced from Marseille, a city that is by nature a crossroads.
The rooftop and the bridge: two reasons to come even without the exhibitions
The footbridge connecting Fort Saint-Jean to the MuCEM building offers one of the best views of the Old Port. The fort itself, transformed into gardens and walkways, is freely accessible and ideal for an evening stroll. The rooftop terrace looks out over the islands and the open sea — one of those Marseille moments you do not forget.

How to get to the MuCEM
The museum is a 5-minute walk from the Old Port. MR Taxi drops you directly at the Fort Saint-Jean entrance and picks you up at the time of your choice — ideal if you are visiting several sites in Marseille in a single day.
